Space Magnetics

ECI’s heritage in space magnetics dates to the late 1980s, beginning with magnetic components used in the Cesium Atomic Clocks for the NAVSTAR GPS satellite system. Since then, we have delivered high-reliability magnetic components supporting a broad spectrum of spaceflight programs, including the International Space Station (ISS), the Space Shuttle, and numerous commercial, weather, communications, and military satellite platforms.

Today, ECI is proud to contribute to NASA’s Artemis–Orion program, supplying critical magnetic components essential to deep-space crewed missions. Our devices support life-sustaining and mission-enabling systems designed to operate in the harshest environments encountered beyond Earth’s atmosphere.

From fully qualified MIL-STD-981 devices assembled by J-STD-001 Space Addendum–certified operators to commercial space-grade solutions, ECI delivers magnetics engineered for reliability under extreme thermal, mechanical, and radiation conditions.

Representative Space Programs & Platforms

Our custom magnetic components support demanding applications across major space initiatives, including:

  • Artemis–Orion – Crewed lunar exploration missions

  • IRCO2 – Infrared CO2 detection systems for next-generation spacesuits

  • ISS – International Space Station subsystems

  • HALO – Habitation and Logistics Outpost (Gateway program)

  • Parker Solar Probe (PSP)

  • Space Test Program 3 (STP-III)

  • Thales Alenia Space Italia (TASI) platforms

  • SPACEBUS NEO telecommunications satellites

  • WPA & OGA – Water Processor Assembly & Oxygen Generation Assembly

ECI engineers collaborate closely with prime contractors and system designers to develop custom magnetic solutions capable of withstanding launch stress, vacuum exposure, radiation, and extreme temperature cycling.

If your application demands uncompromising performance in space, our engineering team is ready to design a magnetic solution tailored to your mission requirements.
