Space Magnetics Components for Mission-Critical Applications

ECI has been involved in Space Magnetics dating back to the late 1980’s when we first provided magnetic components used in the Cesium Atomic Clocks for the NAVSTAR Satellite System. Since that time, ECI has been actively supplying magnetic components for numerous space system applications including the cooling & water systems on the International Space Station, the Space Shuttle program and numerous communication, weather, and military satellites. ECI is proud to be part of the Orion Program where we are providing many critical components that will be essential to accomplish the mission of sending and returning a crew safely into deep space.  From fully qualified MIL-STD-981 devices constructed by our J-STD-001FS certified operators, to commercial space applications, ECI is ready for your application.

Our custom magnetic components are used to accomplish tough jobs in extreme environments, including:

  • ARTEMIS-ORION – Orion Spacecraft mission to the moon
  • IRCO2 – Infrared CO2 detector for new spacesuit
  • ISS – International Space Station
  • HALO – Habitat and Logistics Outpost
  • PSP - Parker Solar Probe
  • STP III – Space Test Program 3
  • TASI – Thales Alenia Space Italia
  • SPACEBUS NEO – Telecom Satellite Program
  • WPA & OGA – Water Processor & Oxygen Generation

ECI’s engineering staff stands ready to assist with the creation of a custom device that will survive the rigors of space. Let us help you create a truly innovative design to solve your critical system issue.

FAQs for Space Magnetics

What types of space magnetics does ECI manufacture?

ECI manufactures custom magnetic components for spacecraft, satellites, and space systems, including transformers, inductors, and specialized magnetic assemblies. Our components support applications from low Earth orbit satellites to deep space missions, with proven performance on programs like ARTEMIS-ORION and the International Space Station.

What space qualifications do your magnetic components meet?

Our space magnetics are manufactured to MIL-STD-981 standards by J-STD-001FS certified operators. We maintain AS9100 and ISO9001 certifications, and are ITAR registered for defense and space applications. These qualifications ensure our components meet the stringent requirements for spaceflight hardware.

How long has ECI been supplying space magnetics?

ECI has been providing space magnetics since the late 1980s, beginning with magnetic components for Cesium Atomic Clocks in the NAVSTAR Satellite System. Our space heritage includes the Space Shuttle program, International Space Station, and current missions like the Parker Solar Probe and ARTEMIS-ORION.

Can you manufacture components for commercial space applications?

Yes, we support both government and commercial space programs. Our experience spans from traditional aerospace programs to new commercial satellite constellations and space ventures. We work with commercial space companies to develop cost-effective solutions while maintaining the reliability required for space applications.

What makes ECI's space magnetics different from standard components?

Our space magnetics are specifically engineered to survive extreme space environments, including radiation, vacuum conditions, and temperature extremes. Each component undergoes rigorous qualification and testing to ensure mission success. Our three decades of spaceflight heritage provide proven design approaches for maximum reliability.

Do you support small satellite and CubeSat missions?

While our current public information focuses on larger space programs, our custom engineering capabilities allow us to design magnetic components for various mission sizes and requirements. Contact our engineering team to discuss specific small satellite or CubeSat magnetic component needs.
